Bolton Hill Festival 10/3/09

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to post some picture from the Bolton Hill Festival that was going on last month (sorry its been so long I've just been super busy.) Anywho, it was a great time I got to set up right next to the stage so we all got to hoop to live music :) We hade a few returning hoopers from the Baltimore Bookfest. It was so awesome to see everyone out hooping and having a great time. The Bolton Hill Festival is an annual event in which local Baltimore residents set up booths with all kinds of goodies. There was also a toilette paper drive. I love how many festivals there are in Baltimore, it's always such a good time! Check out these great pictures taken by my roommate Matthew!

Keep up the Hoop Love everyone!

Baltimore Bookfest 2009

On the 26th of September 2009 the Baltimore Bookfest was in full swing. It was a gloomy and rainy day but people were still out and having fun including a whole gaggle of hoopers of all shapes and sizes. Kandi Kreations facilitated some super fun hoop action. I taught some basic hoops skills and had a lot of fun seeing how much everyone loved the hoops. It was a great time and I hope to be at every festival I can here in Baltimore (there seem to be a lot)

Kandi Kreations will always continue our mission to spread hoop love and enjoy every minute of life

F.A.T.T.Y.'s Super Troupe

Ok so I know its been a while since we've updated but guess what! I have a whole bunch of cool stuff to dump today :)
So in an attempt to spread the hoop love further and enjoy college even more, a few fellow trixies and tricksters and I have started a group known as F.A.T.T.Y.'s Super Troupe (Fantactically Amazing Trixie and Trickster Youth's) Which is the MICA equivalent of a circus troupe. We do a whole bunch of cool stuff including Stilting, Hooping, Poi, Acrobatics, Contact Juggling and Juggling. We are always happy to teach and learn teach and learn so please feel free to come out and play with us :) Here are some pictures from a couple of our informal practices which are held every Sunday from 3 until we're tired at Cohen Plaza. :)

Incendiary Artists of FSU

Check out this awesome video one of the poi spinners made on the club we are trying to start at FSU. It came out super awesome! :D I really hope our club gets picked up, the only thing we are missing right now is the signature of an adviser which has proven to be more difficult then we anticipated. I really love our club we meet almost every single night at 10:00PM on Landis Green at the FSU campus. We've started training people in poi and hoop. We even just picked up a performance spot at Alladin's Hookah Lounge every two weeks so things are looking pretty good.

Hope you enjoyed!

KandiKreations at MICA 9/21/09

Today I had the pleasure of spreading KandiKreations hoop love to a Freshman Elements of Visual Thinking class held by Kirsten Hollander. Kirsten and I met on the trip to Nicaragua, she is an Amazing artist, woman, mother, yoga master, individual (the list goes on.) She invited me to bring some hoops and teach her 20 students how to hoop, she stresses the importance of not only the art on paper but the artist's body awareness throughout the creative process. Hooping is a great way to become aware of one's own body and balance. I taught the very basics of how to keep the hoop spinning and then the students were encouraged to experiment and really play with the relationship of the hoop to their own body. It's amazing how much fun everyone had just playing in the lawn with a whole bunch of hoops.

The hoops acts as a window to one's body. It allows one the understand their own body as it moves through space. This concept probably sounds pretty silly to people who haven't hooped since they were very young so please go out and try it, really practice and see how long it takes before you can toss the hoop from one hand to another or spin around in the hoop with it gliding around you. We think it's a feeling that everyone should experience.
Lots of love to everyone out there

KandiKreations Spreading Hoop love to NIcaragua July-August 09

In the Summer of 2009 Ingrid Schindall of KandiKreations went on a wonderful and eye opening journey to Nicaragua to practice the Art of Solidarity. I travelled well equipped with a KandiKreations Collapsible Hoop Nicaragua edition. After staying in Esteli for about 10 days the group taveled to a rural town in NorthWest Nicaragua called San Juan de Limay. We were greeted with open arms and on our first night we were lucky enough to meet the Mayor. He was so excited to meet us and eager to give the KK Hoop a try :)

After sitting in a bus for almost 4 hours I had to do a little bit of hooping myself.

Every night that we spent in Limay I would go out and teach the children how to hula hoop and they would always come up with new tricks and have a blast. We would all laugh and get a little silly while hooping in the middle of the dirt roads. On the last day of our stay we had an Inauguration for the Mural Project that we worked on for the 12 days of our stay. At the Inauguration the Participants were encouraged to perform any talents that they had to make the night something really special that the town would never forget. The principal of the local high school sang a beautiful song to us, a young muralist named Yubelka danced a traditional Nicaraguan dance and you guessed it, I took my last opportunity to perform with the Nica Hoop.I left the hoop with my homestay family so that the children could continue to play with it and learn new moves.

My experience in Nicaragua is one I will not soon forget, it changed the way that I look at the world around me. I can only hope to be blessed with more opportunities to spread the magic of hooping! This is in fact the main goal of the gypsy trip and by golly we are going to make it happen.
Spread the Love!
